Dubai Sports City is being built around five major sports venues and features a number of sports academies. Located on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road the residential aspect of the project consists of mid-rise apartment buildings, townhouses and villas. Several of the sports facilities have been completed but there are many vacant residential plots where construction has not yet started.
Sports City contains three distinct residential districts: Canal Residence, Victory Heights and Gallery Villas.
Canal Residence is a collection of apartment buildings designed in different architectural styles bordering (what will be) the 1.2 kilometre long, 15 metre wide waterway. There are studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments all sharing community gymnasiums, swimming pools, barbeque spots and children’s play areas.
Victory Heights is a seven-village development built on the golf course fairways. The first phase is complete and consists of almost a thousand villas and townhouses in different sizes with different facilities.
Gallery Villas is the upmarket district with 75 exclusive three- and five-bedroom villas and townhouses also built around the golf course.
Facilities and Amenities
The 18-hole Ernie Els designed golf course and clubhouse at the centre of Sports City is open for business and receiving some good reviews. So too are The Dome Dubai, a 10,000-seat multi purpose indoor arena, and the 25,000-seat cricket stadium which regularly hosts international matches and concerts. There are also sports academies for cricket, swimming, rugby, football, tennis and golf and the International Cricket Council has its HQ here as well. Still to come is a 60,000-seater stadium for football, rugby, track and field events, and a rugby sports park.
